So, what is classic shaving? Very simply, it is the use of shaving methods, which have stood the test of time. Have you seen your neighbourhood barber using a 3 in 1 razor? Ever wondered, why? The answer is simple. He uses the principles of classic shaving and therefore only needs a straight razor and other accessories. It ensures that he gives you the best shave without all the fuss.
Classic shaving has re-emerged as a better shaving option due to two main reasons. The so-called expensive new age shaving equipments cannot guarantee error free shaving and over that, they are might expensive. Shaving is more about understanding the right techniques of using the lather to soften the facial hair and then removing the same by using a device such as a razor. Swanky equipments cannot solve the problems of razor burns or bumps; rather, the right knowledge of shaving or classic shaving is all that you need.
A Basic Classic Shaving Kit
While the straight razor might be a bit dangerous to use for a novice, you can always replace the same with a simple two-way razor. It is a simple contraption with a handle for grasping and a blade enclosure into which, you can insert a sharp, double-edged, stainless steel blade. This is a simple process and you only need to make sure that you change the blade after consequent shaves every time.
The next item on the list of the classic shaving kit is the shaving cream or a bar of soap. Soap is known to take a lot of time to cause the amount of lather when compared to cream, and moreover, the latter does not leave the face dry and stretchy like the former. Therefore, if you are not too keen on the soap bit, then you could always go for a quality shaving cream.
The next item required for classic shaving is the shaving brush. To get the best effect it is advisable to go for a high-grade brush with badger bristles. They are very comfortable on the skin and produce a rich lathering experience.
Finally, keep an alcohol based antiseptic handy to deal with cuts. After shaves can also be tried out here.
The Process
Start your classic shaving operation by washing your face thoroughly with warm water to soften the facial hair. While holding the brush under the faucet let it absorb as much of the hot water as possible.
Then, swirl the bristles on top of a soap bar continuously so that the soapy formation gathers on the tip of the bristles. Then, gently move the brush on your face in the same way a painter uses the brush to paint a room. Occasionally, swirl it at the chin and lower beck areas to create more lather. After having done it for more than a few minutes you will have soaked the hairs properly.
Now, gently use the razor in a “top to bottom” manner and make a first pass at the entire area having facial hair. Then, repeat the same lathering procedure with the brush and perform a second pass with the razor. Clean your face and the equipments thoroughly. If need be, apply a bit of aftershave or antiseptic on the face and your classic shaving is done.
You might need some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you will enjoy the experience of classic shaving more than any other shaving method you applied earlier.

What is Shaving, really? Simply put, it is the process of removal of facial hair with the help of any bladed instrument sharp enough, so as to avoid injury and cuts to the face or the surrounding areas. This is a necessary measure vital in a way, for the purpose of maintaining a state of perceptive dignity, accepted and encouraged within a civilized and progressive society. Now, a well shaven face can be achieved using two methods, classic shaving and modernized shaving. While the latter method makes use of electronic shaving machines and the types, the former process utilizes a blade and lather. Classic shaving is as old as the early civilizations and is still being followed with little or no change.
So, what is classic shaving, after all? Well, in all essence, it involves the use of a shaving kit, which includes a shaving brush to form the lather on the face, a shaving cream and a razor to cut the facial hair. It might also include an after shave lotion or cream. According to grooming experts, classic shaving is better than modernized shaving as it gives them a smoother skin and you have a lesser chance of getting a cut.
New kinds of razors are launched each day in the market for giving men a closer shave. As a result, twin blade razors are very popular these days as they give a perfect and closest shave without cutting the skin. Mostly, the blades in the razors are made up of stainless steel which makes them resistant to water and are reusable for some time. Some of the razors have lubricating strip for better lubrication of the skin during shaving. These razors are cheap and can be used for a while.
However, skeptics feel that classic shaving may have some disadvantages when compared to its modern alternative(s). Firstly, the time required to shave is too much as it involves applying shaving cream and then shaving. Secondly, the blades, although being resistant to water get rusted after a certain period of time. Modernized shaving, on the other hand, gives a faster shave without the help of shaving cream or foam and can therefore be used in times of urgency.
While opinions may vary from person to person, the fact still remains that classic shaving always gets the preference when it comes to having a closer shave and a smoother skin. While time consuming as it may be, it more than makes up for it in the final look it provides you at the end.
